If you are like me, when you see a red, Folgers coffee can, in your mind you immediately hear that catchy jingle with the words, “The best part of waking up, is Folgers in your cup.” You know you just sang it!
By nature, I am not a morning person (and that is a vast understatement), and yet 5am has become my favorite hour of the day. I am VERY fond of coffee, but— to be sure— my routine cup of joe is emphatically NOT the best part of my morning. There is no coffee out there that would make the ungodly hour of five o’clock in the morning a delight for me.
So, if not Folgers, what is the best part of waking up? For me, it is precious time with the Lord. The five o’clock hour is the quietest hour of my day. It is almost the only segment of my day, when I can experience uninterrupted time of Bible reading and prayer.
Consider these words for Psalm 111:
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
Morning Bible Study and Prayer are not merely obligations to get out of the way. No, it is a time that I have grown to love and savor. I am convinced that there is no better way to start the day. This is, for me, the best part of waking up!
